Welcome to the new Sonique message board!
This is a new try to establish a discussion forum about DJ Sonique and her music for all Sonique fans, clubbers and dance music lovers around the world. I remember the times from May 2003 to Autumn 2004, as Universal dropped Sonique from their artist roster, when there was a very alive forum attached to the official website sonique.co.uk. After a temporary closure and the relaunch of Sonique's official website unfortunately there isn't such an interesting place for message exchange anymore. So I thought I might be a good idea to continue with it on my fan site, although I believe, not to get as many visitors as the old forum had once. Maybe I should try to advertise the new forum a bit or even you visitors can help with setting up links at other websites. Hope it will get exciting!
Favourite Sonique song/what Sonique song are you listening to?
At the moment I listen mostly to the "On Kosmo" album. The last tracks seem to be the best of it - the somehow breathless, always pushing forward "Another moment" and the final one "Alone". I felt sorry when it was not picked as the third single release from the album allthough originally announced to be. "Alone" is the strongest song of "On Kosmo" in my ears, an electro-ballad (produced by Tom Novy) with at least the same chart hit potential like e.g. Mel C's "First day of my life" or so ... Don't have the "Tonight" release yet, so I know only the available online snippets, but it seems to be a hot track too.
My fav songs use to be the single picks, of course "It feels so good", "Sky" and the rest! I love also "Why", "Alive", "Another world" to name a few ...
Is Empty (Hideaway) a different song?
I was reading reviews people wrote for Hear My Cry, and one person said "Empty (Hideaway)" is OK but the original version by Amanda Ghost (on the Ghost Stories album) is far superior" I listened to a sample of the song, and it is indeed the same song. Only question is, is this person right, or did Sonique make the song first? Just asking, 'cuz nowhere else did I read that the song was by another artist, and it's one of my favourite songs.
Re: You can say Amanda Ghost's version of "Empty (Hideaway)" is the original, since she has co-written the song at least! The booklet of "Hear my cry" says that the song is written by Lukas Burton, Amanda Goseine and Kent Brainerd. British Dance/Alternative artist Amanda Goseine a.k.a. Amanda Ghost seemed to have released "Empty" on her album "Ghost stories" on WEA Records in September 2000.
The song is claimed to be based even on Amanda's personal experience: She said about the song, "I had a one-night stand in L.A. with some French guy, I can't remember his name. It was at the American Music Awards. I was drunk" (laughed). More seriously, she adds, "After I had this one-night stand, I felt so empty. There was no triumph in it, there was no trophy at the end. I felt even hollower than I felt before."
What have Sonique and Amanda Ghost in common? Maybe more than you think ...
Both artists were born in North London and both have Trinidadian parents, at least Amanda's father comes from Trinidad too (her mother is Spanish). Both women were nominated in 2 categories at the prestigious Ivor Novello Awards. Sonique was nominated for the International Hit of the Year and Bestselling UK Single for the Year 2000 ("It feels so good"), while Amanda Ghost was nominated for the International Hit of the Year and PRS (Performing Right Society) Most Performed Work this year, because she co-wrote James Blunt's 2005 top hit "You're beautiful". The only difference is, Sonique has won only in one category ( International Hit of the Year), but Amanda Ghost took the awards in both mentioned categories home (see picture left).
My personal On Kosmo review...
